Heritage to Horizon, Reimagining the Ken Dyda Civic Center

Catherine Litaker Eisenberg

The reimagined Ken Dyda Civic Center is conceived as a civic landscape that looks “to the horizon”—a metaphor for stewardship, resilience, and building for future generations. The design draws from the natural contours of the Palos Verdes Peninsula, creating a seamless journey from active, community-focused spaces at the north end to contemplative, nature-driven experiences at the south. With drought-tolerant native gardens, inclusive pathways, and flexible outdoor spaces, the civic center strengthens ecological health while serving as a cultural and recreational heart for Rancho Palos Verdes.

About Catherine

Originally from San Diego, Catherine has always had a love of the natural world. In addition to a couple of years working in floral design, Catherine’s primary profession is as a classically trained Harpist and teacher who mostly plays in orchestras and in chamber ensembles. As an aspiring Landscape Architect, she is excited to see how she can blend her love of design, nature and science into beautiful and lasting landscapes. She particularly loves public spaces, natural environments and of course, flowers.
