Hahamongna Watershed Park – A Vision For Renewal

Heather Wu

SCASLA Achievement Award

The judges commended the project’s strong presentation and playful, creative graphics that highlighted a thoughtful theme and mindful use of space.

This project reimagines the West Main Entrance of Hahamongna Watershed Park as a vibrant hub that celebrates Indigenous heritage, highlights the watershed’s ecology, and serves as a center for education and recreation. By restoring the oak woodlands, transforming underused areas, enhancing layout and way-finding, and creating engaging community spaces, the redesign will make the park more welcoming and accessible— inviting visitors to explore, learn, and engage, while deepening connections to the land, water, and cultural heritage.

About Heather

My path to landscape architecture has been a long, cumulative journey shaped by diverse experiences in hospitality, real estate, building a hostel, gardening, and a lifelong love of the outdoors. Each chapter has deepened my appreciation for how people live, gather, and connect with their environments—ultimately guiding me toward this field.

Landscape architecture offers me an outlet for creative problem-solving while engaging directly with the natural world. I fell in love with designing spaces that help people bridge their connection to the outdoors—whether through expansive landscapes, neighborhood parks, or the intimate green pockets of their own homes.

I am excited to dedicate my career to creating spaces that are both beautiful and sustainable—places that teach, serve, and inspire communities. A particular passion of mine is integrating edible landscapes to my designs, where gardens can nourish both the mind and body while educating and inviting people to interact with nature in meaningful, everyday ways.
