2020 Capstone Project

Roberto Achacoso

From Commuter to Community:
Re-claiming underused roadways to create vibrant public space.

The intersection of CA-2 and Glendale Boulevard on the border of Echo Park and Silver Lake is an unpleasant tangle of concrete, asphalt, and traffic in the middle of a vibrant city that is rapidly changing and getting denser. Originally intended to connect to a never-built freeway and now forfeited almost entirely to motor vehicles and through traffic, this intersection is ready for reinvention, with the potential to give the surrounding neighborhood much needed public space.
