Connecting Inner and Outer Space: Creating a Thriving Indoor/Outdoor Work Environment for Rocket Scientists
Callie Kourtis
This project seeks to create a vibrant, healthy, and productive work environment while improving natural elements such as biodiversity and storm water management. The project will improve the overall workplace experience while introducing climate conscious updates to the central campus. The outcome will also result in the originally intended California indoor/outdoor living experience that was pioneered at mid-century.
About Callie
Growing up in Florida I loved the outdoors, playing outside, going to the beaches, and watching space launches. I have a Greek heritage, so the sea and seaside living are in my blood, and so is a strong European influence.
I studied music and engineering, raced road and mountain bicycles, got married and became a mom while working as a software developer. After becoming an empty-nester I started spending more time in the water again, surfing and prone paddleboarding.
I’ve always been intrigued by architecture, especially the mid-century designs I grew up with. I think these influences led me to incorporate California natives into Mediterranean and mid-century designs.
