Alternative Medicine: Healing Garden in Da’an Forest Park
Heather Smith
The project focuses on creating a healing garden in the urban city to care for those suffering from major disease groups as well as the local community’s adjacent clinics. Specific groups include cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal disease, and mental health. Mental health patients are those suffering from the stress and busyness of city life and must be included for the betterment of any resident. The area chosen will be at the already established Da’an Forest Park due to the popularity and accessibility to residents of the district as well as those in other districts via subway, bus, car, or bicycle. Being in transition from working as a pharmacist to landscape architecture, I desire to use alternative medicine within the healing garden in three specific zones targeting those three organ systems.
About Heather
My name is Heather Smith. I came to Landscape Architecture by way of playing Animal Crossing due COVID-19 with my kids, having dreams about designing the land via the new ‘terraforming feature’ on the game and researching whether this drop actually existing. After entering the program, I realized past memories of my grandfather’s apartment construction business affected me when I was on site as a child.
My hobbies include exploring the world, spending time with my family, knitting, cooking, and shopping for gifts. I also am part of ministry school in Japan. My first career was short-lived as a pharmacist, but I am looking forward to using my landscape architect skills in the future alongside ministry for Jesus.
