The Metro Park: Strengthening Communities through Accessible Open Space<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Los Angeles Beverly\/Vermont metro station lies in the midst of a concrete jungle with no green space in sight. This scenario is common for LA, as over 50% of the city residents live in park poor neighborhoods beyond a half-mile walk of a park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Metro Park uses the powerful pairing of green space and public transit to sustainably transform the Beverly\/Vermont metro station into a vibrant transit-oriented community park. Pedestrian and cyclist-centered design improve accessibility, while local art installations, food vendors, and creative play elements cater to the surrounding diverse neighborhoods of Central Los Angeles. The use of hardy native plants, extensive tree canopy, and repurposed local materials create a robust, sustainable landscape that serve the both community and the environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
